Artist Statement:

Located in Elon, VA; a panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains from my studio gives the inspiration and energy for my work.  The rising and setting of the sun, along with the change of the seasons reflects in the forms and glazes I create.

Once introduced to the crystalline glaze, I was captivated.  I find the spontaneously formed crystal patterns on each piece to be a never-ending source of delight and amazement!  I love working with the pureness of porcelain clay;  throwing a “canvas” for my art.

Very few potters attempt crystalline glazes and even fewer are successful in achieving crystals.  Crystal growth requires meticulous detail to the glaze formula and firing schedule.  After years of study and experimenting, many failures and successes;  I am proud to be one of the few!

Unpredictable and complex to achieve, crystalline glazed porcelain remains fascinating to potters and collectors worldwide.  Just like snowflakes and sunsets, no two are ever the same.
